January 10, 2025

For nearly a decade, California has been the epicenter of a scandalous betrayal against its own citizens. Has $24 billion allocated for homelessness over the last 5 years vanished into the hands of corrupt officials and agencies, leaving the state's most vulnerable to suffer? Meanwhile, Los Angeles, the crown jewel of the state, has seen $975 million intended to combat homelessness for the 2023-2024 year alone, go unaccounted for, as the crisis worsens. These billions of dollars seem to have been partially squandered, and the suffering of the homeless has only intensified. Governor Gavin Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass have failed the people, and the corruption within their administrations seems blatant.
But there’s a bigger, more unsettling picture emerging in California right now. The wildfires that are ravaging LA and surrounding areas are a stark reminder of God’s judgment on a state that has turned its back on the poor, the needy, and the hurting. The devastation caused by these fires could very well be seen as part of the judgment of God on a place that has embraced greed, selfishness, and sin in ways that have permeated every corner of society — from government to Hollywood.
God’s Judgment on Those Who Neglect the Poor
Scripture speaks clearly on the consequences of neglecting the poor and the marginalized for personal gain. In Proverbs 14:31, it says, “Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.” But what has California done? For nearly 10 years, the state has neglected the homeless crisis, hoarding billions while people suffer. Sure, there are some wealthy people who help the poor. But most of the wealthy have continued to build empires, growing their outlandish fortunes in the midst of a growing catastrophe. Celebrities and the elite have lived in luxury while thousands live on the streets, and now some of them are facing the consequences of their own folly.
We are witnessing the wreckage of a system that feeds greed and disregards the poor, but God will not be mocked. Galatians 6:7 tells us, “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” California’s leaders and Hollywood elites have sown corruption, materialism, and selfishness, and now they are reaping the whirlwind — not just in the homelessness crisis, but in the wildfires that are destroying homes and lives. And as we have seen, God will not be mocked.
The Hypocrisy of Hollywood and Its Decline
While the average person in California struggles to survive in unspeakable conditions, the Hollywood elite, who have lived the good life, are now facing devastation. Homes in wealthy areas are being destroyed by fires, but they are also facing the consequences of living in sin — sin that has been peddled globally through their movies and their influence. Films that glorify violence, adultery, and perversion have been exported across the globe, leading to the moral decay of not only the U.S. but the world.
Hollywood has mocked God, most recently at the Golden Globe Awards, where entertainers ridiculed faith and righteousness.
Just days after that mocking, the fires started, consuming the lives and homes of some of those who partook in and promoted the sinful culture. Romans 2:6 says, “God will repay each person according to what they have done.” Hollywood is not exempt. Those who have participated in this wickedness are now facing God’s judgment, and the fires may be the least of what is to come.
Movies have gotten progressively worse since the 1960s and 1970s, with R-rated movies now being classified as PG-13 — and the moral decline is accelerating. But there’s still time for repentance. For the stars and the elites who have lost so much, there is a chance to turn away from the sin-filled industry they have built and demand more wholesome, moral movies and roles. The time to repent is now, and turning to God is the only path forward. The wealthy in Hollywood should recognize that while they may have lost their physical possessions, they still have their bank accounts and the ability to rebuild. Unlike most people who are still living in tents in NC or struggling on the streets of LA, these elites have the resources to relocate, rebuild, and start anew — but they must turn away from their sins.
God is Not Done with California
As the fires rage on and the homelessness crisis deepens, California’s time to repent is running out. God’s judgment has already begun, but something far worse is on the horizon if California doesn’t change its ways. The fires, the homelessness crisis, and the moral decline of the state are signs of a nation that has turned its back on God. If California doesn’t repent, we are looking at a much darker future, where the consequences of their actions will be even more devastating.
Hollywood is in God’s sights — and He will bring it to account for the wickedness it has promoted. The leaders of California and Los Angeles must also face judgment for their role in this crisis. Governor Gavin Newsom, Mayor Karen Bass, and other officials must be held responsible for the billions wasted or stolen from ineffective homelessness programs while people continue to suffer.
Federal Investigation Is Necessary
It's time the FBI and the Department of Justice (DOJ) under @realDonaldTrump launch a full-scale corruption investigation into the misuse of public funds in California, LA County, and the City of Los Angeles. Public officials have allowed this crisis to fester, and they must be held accountable for the billions wasted or embezzled and the suffering they’ve caused. If not, California will continue to spiral into deeper destruction.
Now is the time to turn away from sin, to repent, and to seek God’s mercy before it's too late. Jesus offers the opportunity for redemption which is still there for all, including those who have suffered in the wildfires and those living in luxury, but it won’t last forever. If California doesn’t heed the warning, something much worse is coming John 5:14— and God will not be mocked.
